The essence of evangelization is found in Christ’s Great Commission: “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you” (Matthew 28:19-20).
Evangelization seeks to make disciples for Jesus Christ. It strives for personal conversion through Christian witness, the Sacraments, and preaching the kerygma. Considering “the task of evangelizing all peoples constitutes the essential mission of the Church” (Evangelii Nuntiandi 14), every parish within the Diocese of Gary is called to be an evangelizing parish.
The Office of Missionary Discipleship and Evangelization seeks to support, through consulting and training, the parishes of the Diocese of Gary and all the faithful in the task of making disciples of Jesus, with a special focus on the New Evangelization and those who are in need of re-evangelization.
