"At the heart of catechesis we find, in essence, a person, the person of Jesus of Nazareth, the only Son from the Father. . .who suffered and died for us and who now, after rising, is living with us forever." (Catechism of the Catholic Church 426)
The mission of the Office of Catechesis of the Diocese of Gary aims to foster in all the Catholic faithful a deep love and devotion for Jesus Christ and His Church through the moment of evangelization called catechesis, and in so doing aid in their salvation.
All baptized persons have the right to be taught the fullness of the Catholic Faith in an organic and systematic way (Catechesi Tradendae 18). Within the realms of catechesis, faith formation, religious education, sacramental preparation, and other such parish programs the Office of Catechesis, in conjunction with pastors and parish coordinators, will offer resources and services so that the Catholic faithful of the Diocese of Gary are offered the fullness of the Catholic Faith and are exhorted to live it.
