Sometimes we think we have all the time in the world. The beautiful gift of Lent is that it reminds us that now is the time to respond to the offer of salvation that the Lord gives us. We hear this from St. Paul in the Ash Wednesday readings: "Now is a very acceptable time, now is the time of salvation."
So, my encouragement as we enter into Lent, is to not delay. In responding to the Lord's love, Lent gives us a chance to focus on what's really important and to say, "Lord here's what I'm doing but I know you're calling me to even more."
I call that a plus one challenge. What do I mean by that? Think about your spiritual life right now, and Lent should be an opportunity for you to add some additional element to it. Going to Sunday Mass? Fantastic. How about one more Mass during that week? Going to Mass by yourself? Glad you're there. How about bringing one more person with you? Getting five minutes of prayer in a day? How about 10 minutes?
Reflect upon your own spiritual life and do that plus one so that during this Lenten season, we can respond. There's a sense of urgency that we hear in the scriptures that's still with us here today: that the Lord is calling us, he's calling us now. And so now is the time to respond, not to delay and say we have all the time in the world, but to say we have the time now to respond to the Lord's love. Have a fantastic Lent, embracing the call that the Lord is giving to all of us to follow him as missionary disciples.

A veces pensamos que tenemos todo el tiempo del mundo. El hermoso regalo de la Cuaresma es que nos recuerda que ahora es el momento de responder a la oferta de salvación que el Señor nos hace. Lo escuchamos de San Pablo en las lecturas del Miércoles de Ceniza. Ahora es un tiempo muy aceptable, ahora es el tiempo de la salvación".
Así pues, mi consejo al entrar en la Cuaresma es que no nos demoremos al responder al amor del Señor. La Cuaresma nos da la oportunidad de centrarnos en lo que es realmente importante y decir: "Señor, esto es lo que estoy haciendo, pero sé que me estás llamando a más".

Piensa en tu vida espiritual ahora mismo, y la Cuaresma debería ser una oportunidad para que le agregues algún elemento adicional. ¿Vas a misa los domingos? Fantástico. ¿Qué tal una Misa más durante esa semana? ¿Vas a Misa tú solo? Me alegro de que estés allí. ¿Qué tal llevar a una persona más contigo? ¿Oras cinco minutos al día? ¿Qué tal 10 minutos?
Reflexiona sobre tu propia vida espiritual y haz eso "más uno" para que durante este tiempo de Cuaresma podamos responder. Hay un sentido de urgencia que escuchamos en las escrituras que todavía están con nosotros aquí hoy: que el Señor nos está llamando, ahora. Así que ahora es el momento de responder, no para retrasarlo y decir que tenemos todo el tiempo del mundo, sino para decir que ahora tenemos el tiempo para responder al amor del Señor. Que tengan una Cuaresma fantástica, aprovechando la llamada que el Señor nos hace a todos para seguirlo como discípulos misioneros.
