Saint Teresa of Avila Catholic Student Center is seeking a talented Catholic musician to serve as Music Coordinator for our vibrant campus ministry and community.
Located adjacent to Valparaiso University, Saint Teresa is home to a thriving Catholic community where the Eucharist is the center of our life. We are seeking a pianist who is passionate about sacred music and desires to lead students and members of the community in beautiful, reverent worship that glorifies God and supports the Church's liturgy.
This stipend position is ideal for someone who enjoys serving the Church through music while collaborating with our Chaplain, Director of Evangelization and Worship, musicians, and volunteers.
Responsibilities
The Music Coordinator will:
- Plan and select sacred music for weekend Masses, Holy Days, and major liturgical celebrations.
- Serve as the primary pianist for weekend liturgies.
- Direct and rehearse cantors, instrumentalists, and student musicians.
- Recruit and mentor volunteer musicians.
- Collaborate with the Director of Evangelization and Worship and Chaplain in planning liturgies throughout the liturgical year.
- Coordinate music for Christmas, Holy Week, Easter, and other special celebrations.
- Maintain the music library, instruments, and worship resources.
- Assist families in planning music for weddings and funerals, with opportunities to provide music for these liturgies.
Qualifications
Applicants should:
- Be a practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church.
- Demonstrate strong piano accompaniment skills suitable for Catholic liturgy.
- Be comfortable leading congregational singing and accompanying cantors.
- Possess knowledge of the liturgy of the Roman Catholic Church and sacred music.
- Be familiar with both traditional Catholic hymnody and contemporary sacred music appropriate for worship.
- Have strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Be available for weekend Masses, Holy Days, and major liturgical celebrations.
Compensation
This position is compensated through a stipend as an independent contractor. Additional compensation opportunities are available for weddings and funerals.
