The role of Coordinator of Sacred Music is designed to help the Diocese of Gary grow into the Church we are called to be: missionary disciples who are prayerfully centered on an encounter with Jesus Christ. The Ministry Team Member for Sacred Music works closely with parish music and leaders, the Office of Worship, and the Missionary Discipleship team to support, encourage, and build up those who serve our parishes. The heart of this position is relationship and formation; walking with parish leaders, helping them grow in confidence, skill, and vision so that sacred music serves the mission of the Church. This role focuses on developing leaders, strengthening parish ministries, and ensuring that worship at both the parish and diocesan level is well-executed, meaningful, and reverently rooted in the Catholic faith. In doing so, it helps move our parishes from maintenance to mission by allowing sacred music to open hearts to Christ.
Bachelor’s degree in theology, liturgy, sacred music, or related field is required with a master’s degree preferred. The idea candidate has a minimum of five years of parish or diocesan experience in sacred music or liturgical ministry.
Required Skills
• Strong organizational, administrative, and communication skills
• proficiency with the piano and singing
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
• Strong collaboration skills with clergy, parish staff, and diocesan leadership
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Knowledge of Catholic liturgy and sacred music
