As the summer days continue to pass, I am drawn to remember with great joy and gratitude the two priestly ordinations of Father Ivan Alatorre and Father Alex Kouris, and the transitional diaconate ordination of Deacon William O’Donnell on June 7. As a Bishop, it is a great privilege to ordain these men and to welcome them as the newest members of our clergy. Please pray for them in the first months of their new ministry and pray that we will be blessed with even more priestly and religious vocations.
Summer often brings a sense of calm as well as anticipation; a lighter schedule and the end of the school year may bring more free time and flexibility. Milestones such as graduations trigger the anticipation of change. During this time, many of us feel a desire to savor — to savor the sunlight, the rest, the time with family and friends. The Church has moved from the Easter Season into Ordinary Time, inviting us to savor the gifts of grace received through Lent and Easter. The ordinary, daily rhythms of faith call us to a renewed deepening in our relationship with Christ.
As you savor the gift of your faith this summer, I invite you to attend EMMAUS, a missionary discipleship conference, on Aug. 9 at the Porter County Expo Center. This conference is an opportunity to foster a deeper sense of community, compassion and connection with Christ through engaging speakers, interactive workshops, powerful moments of praise and worship and the celebration of Mass. A medida que pasan los días de verano, me siento atraído a recordar con gran alegría y gratitud las dos ordenaciones sacerdotales del P. Iván Alatorre y el P. Alex Kouris, y la ordenación como diácono transitorio del diácono William O'Donnell el 7 de junio.
