Under general supervision of the Superintendent the Assistant Superintendent of School Operations works collaboratively with the Office of Catholic Schools and stakeholder groups to advance the mission of Catholic Education and provide quality service to the schools in the Diocese of Gary. Key focus areas include data collection, diocesan accreditation, platform management, stakeholder communication, school safety, school improvement, and alignment of all work with our Catholic Identity.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Coordinate and monitor the schools’ operational needs in accordance with Diocese of Gary ‘s goals and objectives, as well as with applicable laws and alignment with our Catholic Identity.
  2. Create and communicate a framework for school operational vitality using Indiana Department of Education (IDOE), accreditation requirements, and the National Standards and Benchmarks for Effective Catholic Elementary and Secondary Schools (NSBECS) as a guide.
  3. Manage operational vitality metrics to provide data to monitor elements included in our annual school reports and our student information system in collaboration with diocesan partners such as Big Shoulders Fund.
  4. Represent OCS for specific school improvement and intervention teams in collaboration with Big Shoulders Fund and local leadership teams.
  5. Be responsive and an active resource for principals, parents, pastors and other stakeholders. Offering school support for elevated areas of concern.
  6. Managing all diocesan financial assistance and School Choice Scholarships which includes working with our School Granting Organization (SGO), FACTS, IDOE and Catholic Services Appeal (CSA).
  7. Lead the Diocesan school safety initiatives and collaborate with the Diocesan Human Resource and Safe Environment departments. Lead representative on school safety, facility concerns, IDOE Safety requirements, diocesan policy, provide professional development, compliance, principal safety committee, and other stakeholders.
  8. Coordinate the diocesan school accreditation efforts assuming the lead of Operational Vitality components.
  9. Assist the Office of Catholic Schools in areas such as school visits, principal evaluations, strategic plans, learning management systems, principal and teacher professional development opportunities and faith development.

 
ADDITIONAL DUTIES

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Effective written and verbal communication in-person, on the telephone, and virtually.
  • Strong electronic organizational skills with knowledge of technology structures and organizational platforms.
  • The timely completion of a variety of reports related to but not limited to all aspects of operational vitality and school management.
  • Collaborate with the Diocesan finance department regarding long- and short-term needs such as school budgets, facility plans and risk analysis.
  • Define key data components and support school data collection, organization and analysis. Development of online forms and spreadsheets for organizing and displaying numerical data related to a variety of reports in a clear and concise way.
  • Collaborate effectively with the Superintendent and other members of OCS and pastoral staff on diocesan-wide initiatives and strategic planning.  Serve on diocesan committees and task forces as assigned.  Foster a collaborative and supportive environment among school leaders.
  • Continue to acquire professional knowledge and learn current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.

 
QUALIFICATIONS

  • Earned their Indiana State Certification as an Administrator or meets the criteria to qualify for state certification.
  • Has earned a Bachelor’s Degree and Master's Degree in Educational Leadership, Curriculum and Instruction, or a related field from an accredited college or university (Doctorate preferred).
  • Candidate must be an active, practicing Catholic in good standing.
  • Has State of Indiana administrator certification or meets criteria to qualify for state certification.

 
EXPERIENCE

  • Recommend five (5) years of successful experience in Catholic school administration, preferably at the principal or central office level.
  • Strong understanding of Catholic educational philosophy and the mission of Catholic schools.
  • Demonstrates successful experience in researching and implementing practices related to school improvement, assessment, professional development, supervision and evaluation.
  • Experience with school safety, facility management, and compliance.
  • Familiarity with the National Standards and Benchmarks for Effective Catholic Elementary and Secondary Schools (NSBECS).
  • Proficiency in technology and its application in educational settings.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is also required to stand, walk and manage stairs.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus.
  • The employee must be able to do some traveling and work remotely in many different locations throughout our diocesan schools. The employee must be able to drive and provide their own transportation when visiting schools, city/state agencies and attending professional meetings.
