An assistant should share his/her faith with the parish and is responsible for administrative duties regarding the parish faith formation program. Carries out specific tasks assigned by the Religious Education Director and/or Pastor.

  1. Specific Task/Duties:
  1. Collaborates with the Director, Pastor, staff, and catechetical personnel in the development of the religious education/faith formation vision and mission statements.

  1. Helps to ensure that religious / formation programs are rooted in the Gospel, the Catechism of the Catholic Church, General Directory for Catechesis and guidelines and policies from the Diocese of Gary.

  1. Fosters a climate of faith community through leadership on the faith formation of catechists, families, parents, children, youth, and adults in the parish.

  1. Assists in planning of the formation process as it pertains to sacraments for youth and children.

  1. Assists with developing goals and objectives as it relates to catechetical programs for persons of all ages and needs within the parish community.

  1. Follows Diocese of Gary policies in screening, training, and certifying of catechists including but not limited to:  Criminal Background checks, Sexual Misconduct Towards Minors education, Creating Safe Environments for Youth and Virtus.

  1. Serves as a theological resource for parish and school program.

  1. Assists with the work of the religious education / formation office and volunteers.

  1. Pursues opportunities to grow spiritually and professionally through prayer and reflection.

  1. Completes other duties as assigned.

SPECIFIC JOB SKILLS:

Ability to work with people of all ages.  Excellent leadership skills.  Excellent organizational, interpersonal and public speaking skills.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

A high school degree is required to uphold the on the job training with no experience necessary.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, stairs, stoop, talk, reach, feel, sit, climb, grasp, hear and perform repetitive motions of the hands/wrists.  Lifts and moves items up to 50 pounds. 

JOB CONDITIONS:

Work is performed mostly in an office setting.  Employee is required to do extensive close computer work, as well as sit for long periods of time. Attend evening, weekend activities and meetings.
