Second-year Major League Baseball player Mike Brosseau became a hero for Tampa Bay Rays fans and a TV and Internet sensation on Oct. 9.
In Game Five of the American League Division Series, the St. Bridget and Andrean High School graduate hit a home run that put his team ahead for good as they captured their third win over the New York Yankees in the best-of-five series.
Forty-year Andrean head baseball coach Dave Pishkur recalled “Mikey” Brosseau as being a scrappy and dedicated player, who made an impact as a shortstop for the 59ers’ 2010 state championship. However, the 1,000-win coach said the teen’s talent and physique was not necessarily the stuff that pro careers are made of.
Pishkur has been impressed at the training and dedication that Brosseau has continued with from his days at Oakland College in Rochester, Mich., to the minor leagues, to his utility role with the Rays, who are playing the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series. The Dodgers had a 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven series after defeating the Rays Sunday night.
