Superintendent addresses positive COVID-19 case -- 8/14/2020

Today one of our schools, Andrean High School in Merrillville, learned that a student had tested positive for COVID-19. School administrators engaged safety protocols that were established prior to reopening, and immediately contacted the county health department. School administration enacted procedures for contact tracing and prepared a statement that was sent to school families, informing them of the documented case.

All schools in the Catholic Diocese of Gary have worked diligently with the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) and local county health officials to develop comprehensive reopening plans that include protocols for managing situations like the documentation of a positive case of COVID-19. School administrators are prepared to enact safety protocols and adjust plans according to each unique situation. School leadership will continue to prudently monitor school operations to ensure the safety of students and staff.

Our schools remain focused on providing a faith filled, rigorous Catholic education. Schools will utilize all available resources to create and maintain a productive educational environment that preserves the safety, health and wellbeing of our students, staff, and families. Principals, pastors, and the diocesan Catholic Schools Office will continue to work collaboratively with local health officials, the IDOE, and the Center for Disease Control (CDC) as the school year unfolds.

We thank our families, staff and the local communities for their cooperation and commitment to follow guidelines put in place to keep everyone safe while we endeavor to serve our families with love, integrity and compassion during the coronavirus pandemic.

Jesus, we trust in You.

Our Lady of Lourdes…pray for us!

God Bless,
