NORTHWEST INDIANA – Nurses and staff in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at Franciscan Health Crown Point and the Family Birth Center at Franciscan Health Dyer are helping babies and their families get into the Halloween spirit with costumes and photo shoots for their little ones.
Infants in the NICU at Franciscan Health Crown Point dressed up as a cow, Snow White, a fairy, Captain America, Rapunzel and a boxer. The newborns in the Family Birth Center at Dyer posed for “Our Little Boo” photos in a cauldron.
Staff members work with families to provide costumes and take photos to celebrate the milestone of dressing baby in a costume for their first Halloween, whether they are in the NICU for an extended stay or preparing to be discharged from the Family Birth Center shortly after birth. Providing the opportunity to capture these milestones reflects Franciscan’s values and commitment to care for patients and their families not only in body and mind, but also in spirit.
Franciscan Health Crown Point and Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago in the fall of 2022 launched a partnership that brought one of the nation’s top neonatology programs to Northwest Indiana. Lurie Children’s neonatologists now staff the 20-bed Level III neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at Franciscan Health Crown Point, caring for the most vulnerable babies and their families close to home.
