Parishioners and guests remained after Sunday Mass for a May Crowning at St. Stephen, Martyr parish in Merrillville where Olivia Ruiz, 15, carried a crown to a Marian statute and Patti McLaughlin placed the floral headdress on the icon on May 2. “The month of May is dedicated to our Blessed Mother and will end with the Feast of the Visitation,” said Father Michael Maginot, pastor, before praying a litany. “And so it is our tradition here, we begin this month with the crowning of the Blessed Mother.”
