The holiest time of the year

Brothers and sisters, we enter into Holy Week, the most holy time of the year.

We begin with the triumph of Palm Sunday as Jesus is welcomed into Jerusalem with cries of Hosanna. But quickly we accompany Jesus into his Passion, where those same voices turn to crucify him.

Many things happen this week: Jesus triumphantly enters the Holy City. Jesus gives his disciples the greatest gift of his body and blood at the Last Supper. Do he recognize the gift of his love for us as we receive the gift of the Eucharist?

Afterward, Jesus prays in agony in the Garden of Gethsemane, but submits to the Father's will, saying, "Not my will, but your will be done.

Do we desire the Father's plan for us in times of suffering? How can Jesus help us trust God, especially when we do not understand His plan?

Finally, on the cross, Jesus utters words of forgiveness and mercy. "Father forgive them, for they know not what they do."

Even in His suffering, Jesus seeks to console offering love and forgiveness. How can we model this forgiveness in our own lives?

As we enter Holy Week, take time for silent reflection. Read through this gospel passage slowly and place yourself in the story. Are you Peter? Maybe one of the bystanders? Or are you John or Mary? Are you Jesus?

As you reflect with and sit down with the Lord this week, let him console you, receive his offer of love and forgiveness.

I'll be praying for you as you allow yourself to be loved and healed by Jesus more deeply each day. God bless you.
