A few years ago, I would not have understood the term “influencer.” In the modern sense, to be an influencer means that one solitary person can have an enormous impact on social trends and behavior patterns. The Merriam-Webster definition now includes the current usage of the term:
“Influencer - one who exerts influence: a person who inspires or guides the actions of others … often, specifically: a person who is able to generate interest in something (such as a consumer product) by posting about it on social media.”
Whether via social media or otherwise, the fact is that one person can have an enormous impact by the words they share and the ripple effect that goes forth from what they share. I recall an old television commercial from the ‘70’s promoting a certain brand of shampoo and the tagline was, “You tell two friends and they tell two friends and so on and so on…”
In sharing our faith with others, we should resist the temptation to think that our words and actions have little effect. One beautiful act of caring can touch many people in ways we can’t imagine. A word of encouragement or an invitation to draw closer to Jesus can be transformative. What we say matters. What we do matters. We can be “influencers” for the faith when we live and speak in a way that reflects our Christian faith.
There should be something about the way we live and the words we share that attracts others to Christ. Of course, in the early Church it was just the 12 apostles and a handful of disciples. Their ministry and preaching of the Good News attracted many followers. The impact is now worldwide and has been sustained for more than two millennia.
In sharing our faith, we don’t need the perfect words to say – but we do need the Holy Spirit. It’s important to call upon the Holy Spirit throughout our day, every day, to help us draw others to Jesus.
I know a family whose relative decided to become Catholic based largely on the witness of their Catholic family life. This relative saw the family living their faith with love. The relative concluded, “if that’s what it means to be a Catholic, then I want to be a Catholic.” So, the relative enrolled in a Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults program and joined the Church.
My prayer is that we live centered on Jesus and share his love with others. I hope that we will share his words with others and invite them to join us in growing closer to Jesus. This witness of our life and the witness of our words can have a profound influence on those around us. In a world consumed with so many distractions and meaningless endeavors, we have the most important message. Jesus loves you. He’s calling you. He has a plan for your life. Repent and believe this Good News. There’s a better way to live.
Let’s be influencers for Christ.

Ser un "influenciador" para Cristo
Hace unos años, no habría entendido el término "influenciador". En el sentido moderno, ser un influenciador significa que una sola persona puede tener un enorme impacto en las tendencias sociales y los patrones de comportamiento. La definición de Merriam-Webster incluye ahora el uso actual del término:
"Influenciador - alguien que ejerce influencia: una persona que inspira o guía las acciones de otros... a menudo, específicamente: una persona que es capaz de generar interés en algo (como un producto de consumo) publicando sobre ello en los medios sociales".
Ya sea a través de las redes sociales o de otro modo, el hecho es que una persona puede tener un enorme impacto por las palabras que comparte y el efecto dominó que se produce a partir de lo que comparte. Recuerdo un viejo anuncio de televisión de los años 70 que promocionaba cierta marca de champú y cuyo eslogan era: "Se lo dices a dos amigos y ellos se lo dicen a dos amigos y así sucesivamente..."
Al compartir nuestra fe con los demás, debemos resistir la tentación de pensar que nuestras palabras y acciones tienen poco efecto. Un bello acto de cuidado puede tocar a muchas personas de maneras que no podemos imaginar. Una palabra de ánimo o una invitación para acercarse a Jesús puede ser transformadora. Lo que decimos importa. Lo que hacemos importa. Podemos ser "influenciadores" de la fe cuando vivimos y hablamos de una manera que refleja nuestra fe cristiana.
Debería haber algo en nuestra forma de vivir y en las palabras que compartimos que atraiga a los demás hacia Cristo. Por supuesto, en la Iglesia primitiva eran sólo los 12 apóstoles y un grupo de discípulos. Su ministerio y la predicación de la Buena Nueva atrajeron a muchos seguidores. El impacto es ahora mundial y se ha mantenido durante más de dos milenios.
Al compartir nuestra fe, no necesitamos las palabras perfectas para decirlo, pero sí necesitamos el Espíritu Santo. Es importante invocar al Espíritu Santo a lo largo de nuestro día, todos los días, para que nos ayude a atraer a otros a Jesús.
Conozco a una familia cuyo pariente decidió hacerse católico basándose en gran medida en el testimonio de su vida familiar católica. Este pariente vio que la familia vivía su fe con amor. El familiar llegó a la conclusión de que "si eso es lo que significa ser católico, entonces quiero serlo". Así que el familiar se inscribió en un programa de Rito de Iniciación Cristiana para Adultos y se unió a la Iglesia.
Mi oración consiste en que vivamos centrados en Jesús y compartamos su amor con los demás. Espero que compartamos sus palabras con los demás y los invitemos a unirse a nosotros para acercarse a Jesús. Este testimonio de nuestra vida y el testimonio de nuestras palabras pueden tener una profunda influencia en quienes nos rodean. En un mundo que se consume con tantas distracciones y esfuerzos sin sentido, tenemos el mensaje más importante. Jesús te ama. Él te llama. Tiene un plan para tu vida. Arrepiéntete y cree en esta Buena Nueva. Hay una mejor manera de vivir.
