PRIMARY FUNCTIONS: Serve in the Secretariat of Catholic Schools as the leader of the Mother Theodore Catholic Academies (MTCA) in the areas of Mission/Catholic Identity, Academic Excellence, Leadership/Governance, and Operational Vitality. MTCA lives the mission of the Catholic Church by teaching, serving, and forming students in the heart of Indianapolis. MTCA is a consortium on archdiocesan center-city Indianapolis Catholic schools providing a rigorous Catholic education for preschool through 8th grade students.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES and REGULAR ACTIVITIES including, but not limited to:

  • Mission and Catholic Identity:
  • Ensure that all practices, programs, and decisions align with the teachings of the Catholic Church.
  • Oversee catechetical certification/formation for all ministers of the faith.
  • Provide spiritual development opportunities for school leaders, teachers, and staff. Ensure faith formation of students, parents, and staff.
  • Ensure that the teachings of the faith are infused into all content areas and curricular supports.
  • Articulate the mission of the MTCA to all stakeholders.

ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE: 

  • Provide leadership/consultation with MTCA leaders for the total Catholic education and formation of young people.
  • Coordinator spiritual and professional development for school leaders related to Catholic school culture, academic excellence, and operational vitality.
  • Oversee curriculum and assessment processes with MTCA staff.
  • Analyze and utilize student and school data to determine trends, strengths and needs of students, school programming.
  • Oversee reporting system implementation (effective grading practices, reporting measures, etc.).
  • Collaborates with Office of Catholic Schools (OCS) attends all relevant professional development offered by OCS.

LEADERSHIP/GOVERNANCE:

  • Mentor and supervise MTCA principals and instructional coaches; convene regular meetings focused on strategic objectives and academics.
  • Lead and supervise board work, development efforts, grant writing, etc.
  • Oversee board recruitment, training, and development efforts.
  • Ensure all safety, health, voucher, legal, policy, and IDOE compliance in collaboration with Catholic Center staff including, but not limited to, OCS, Human Resources, and Legal Counsel.
  • Monitor the selection of personnel so that the values of those employed reflect the MTCA mission.
  • Work directly with the MTCA Advisory Board in monitoring the MTCA strategic plan, promulgating policy, and ensuring effective operational vitality for long-term viability of schools.

OPERATIONAL VITALITY:

  • Lead the strategic planning process for MTCA.
  • Facilitate comprehensive training in strategic planning using the National Standards and Benchmarks for Effective Catholic Elementary and Secondary Schools (NSBECS).
  • Provide leadership for public policy advocacy, activities, and government programs.
  • Oversee school advancement/enrollment/development initiatives in coordination with OCS and Office of Stewardship and Development Staff.
  • Assist in the development of sustainability plans of schools (beyond state vouchers). 

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, and RESPONSIBILITIES

1.  SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND/OR ABILITIES

  • Visionary leader who knows, embodies, and believes in the mission of MTCA.
  • Working knowledge and experience implementing NSBECS.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and technology skills that transfer across roles and responsibilities.
  • Strong administrative and organizational skills. Effective interpersonal skills, and the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality. 
  • Strong knowledge and experience with effective development, marketing, and ethical business practices.
  • Ability to collaborate and foster teamwork within the MTCA leadership, OCS, and individual school communities.
  • Desire to grow in the Catholic faith and to expand the spiritual and professional development of leaders in the MTCA.
  • Model of lifelong learning through a commitment to acquiring new skills and encouraging others to do the same.
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with individuals and groups from different cultural backgrounds.

2.  EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Must be a professed and practicing Catholic.
  • At least 5 years of educational leadership experience, preferably in urban Catholic education.
  • Master’s or equivalent degree in education.
  • Maintains a current Indiana Professional Educational License, including Science of Reading
  • Experience in development and/or marketing efforts. f. Proponent and example of lifelong learning.
  • Preference may be given to a professional who is bi-lingual and bi-cultural.

3.  WORKING ENVIRONMENT

  • Monday-Thursday 8:00-4:30 at Catholic Center, Friday 4 hours at schools; some evenings, and weekends necessary.
  • The Executive Director of the MTCA must convey and be supportive of the teachings of the Catholic Church, including but not limited to: honoring the dignity of each human life from conception to natural death, care for God’s creation, and the belief that all persons are called to respect human sexuality and its expression in the Sacrament of Marriage as a sign of God’s love and fidelity to His Church.   • Determining whether the Executive Director of the MTCA is conducting him/herself in accordance with the teaching of the Catholic Church is an internal Church matter and is at the sole discretion of the Archbishop or the Superintendent as his delegate.
