The communications specialist creates engaging content that supports the communication strategy for the Diocese of Gary. The role works closely with the communications manager and communications ministry team to produce meaningful, accurate content that informs, inspires and engages diverse audiences on multiple platforms.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

SPECIFIC TASK/DUTIES:

SPECIFIC TASK/DUTIES:

1.     Create engaging content for diocesan communications, which includes:

a.     Written content and copy editing

b.     Photography and captioning

c.     Basic graphic design

d.     Videography and editing

2.     Collaborate with key stakeholders to generate content for diocesan communications. 

3.     Manage day-to-day workflow that leads to timely project completion, some of which may occur during the evening or on a weekend with a 24–48-hour turnaround window.

4.     Organize digital assets.

5.     Assist with diocesan content for social media channels and marketing campaigns.

SPECIFIC JOB SKILLS:

1.     Excellent visual, oral, interpersonal, and written communication.

2.     Able to collaborate with others and accurately predict project timelines.

3.     Proficient with communication tools such as Adobe Suite, Canva Pro, Google Suite, and Microsoft Office -- and email tools such as Constant Contact.

4.     Able to use social media (Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn) and tools such as Hootsuite.

5.     Able to work independently to prioritize and manage multiple tasks, seek instruction/feedback as needed and complete tasks on time.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

1.     Bachelor’s degree in communications, graphic design, marketing, or a similar field preferred, but will consider equivalent experience.

2.     Experience producing accurate and creative content for print and digital platforms.

3.     Experience working in a team environment, collaborating with others.  

4.     Must desire to share the joy of the Gospel, through a Catholic lens, with all of God’s children.

     II.         MISSION

Demonstrates loyalty and pride in pastoral center, parishes, schools, and all those who work in the Diocese of Gary.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, stoop, talk, reach, feel, sit, climb, grasp, hear and perform repetitive motions of the hands/wrists.  Lifts and moves items up to 30 pounds. 

JOB CONDITIONS:

Work is performed mostly in an office setting, with extensive close computer work, and may include sitting for long periods of time. Work may occasionally include evening or weekend activities.
