Resources for Moms and Families in Need

Catholic Charities provides and advocates for the physical, emotional, and social needs of the poor and vulnerable in Northwest Indiana, meeting them right where they with the help they need, and creating hope for a brighter future regardless of their religious or ethnic background. Support includes utility and rent assistance, food pantries, and affordable housing.

Franciscan Health offers prenatal assistance and has programs to support women & children with parenting classes, formula and diapers, and assistance in finding resources to support recovery from addiction.

The Society of St. Vincent DePaul (SVDP) assists all people in need. In 2021 alone, they provided $755,000 in client aid to neighbors in need. Contact your local parish to connect with the Society of St. Vincent DePaul for help with with food, clothing, furniture, medication expenses and financial assistance for utilities, housing, transportation, and car repairs.

Mommy's Haven Maternity Home in Lowell's mission is to empower and equip moms and pregnant women seeking parenting options by providing physical, emotional and spiritual support during and after pregnancy. Mommy’s Haven provides shelter, food, clothing, and a supportive community. In addition to their own services, Mommy's Haven connects moms to appropriate agencies and resources. 

Safe Haven Baby Boxes are available throughout Northwest Indiana to prevent illegal abandonment of newborns by raising awareness, offering a 24-hour hotline for mothers in crisis and offering a last resort option for women. ​If you need help finding a safe haven location or to speak to a licensed counselor, call the National Safe Haven crisis hotline at 1-866-99BABY1.

Sojourner Truth House offers resources for homeless women and children, including housing, meals, transportation to appointments, laundry facilities, mental health assistance, and job placement.

The four Women’s Care Centers in the Diocese of Gary focus on building strong families, offering parenting skills education, adoption support and material resources as moms grow in self-sufficiency. They assist with ultrasounds, parenting classes and resources that help women and couples after childbirth.
